My sister has been engaged for well over a few years now. She's getting hitched in August of 06. We're taking care of the tiny stuff now and get them out of the way like flowers, cake, jewlery etc. Because I'm her sis, she designated me as maid of honor. I'm honored and all but because her future brother in law is the best man and his gf is a brides maid I'm stuck looking for a escort or date. So today she asks me: "Jess have you started looking around for a guy yet? Your person who was going to walk with you decided his girlfriend will be his escort/date. So you need to start looiking around for one." Uh, ok nice and all but uh, um, as for getting out I don't get out much. I don't know ANYONE in my area. Let alone the guy I previously dated is def. not going to be my date. It's so hard for me to find a boyfriend let alone a date or escort for her wedding. I have a year to look around but with work I have no time. The only place I actually go that doesn't consist of family breathing down my neck is at work where I volunteer at. I'm not a bar hopper or clubber either. And with me being disabled with some medical problems on the side it's so hard for me to find the right person. I really don't want to be pushed or rushed into something I'll regret. So if you were in my shoes what would you do? Where would you go to find someone? I'm kind of lost on this. It's only for one night and I don't want the guy to feel I'm using him for that just one event then ditch him afterwards. Any helpful advise is welcome.
Jess, Just a thought but is there ot a friend from a church group or work who you could ask to be your platonic escort. Explain your situation and check out the response. Just because a man escorts you to a function doesn't mean, one that you're using him or two that you owe him anything. I know it's hard to find company for family functions but stay focused and keep looking. Well I thought of that. So I already emailed a few of my male friends. I wont know until what they suggest. If that fails then I'm gonna have to find someone as a date. Our family is mostly women, and sis already rejected the idea of having our only male cousin escort me simply because we're not sure if the groom wants him in the wedding.
weddings have got to be some of the most stressful events ever. sure the actual date is great but the planning invariably always ends up in someone arguing with someone else and people disagreeing about small details ... ya know though, you could always ask the male zoners to all write a paragraph on why they think they should be the one, and then you could pick the most suitable one that way, grin
